Why, when most spiritual leaders and glass-full optimistsinsist that Mankind's evolution, in terms of success, is on an upward spiralcourse, do I feel so strongly that in fact, its course is either a 2dimensional circle or an inevitable slide ? Whether I look at internationalpolitics - Pres. Bush's 'Why not give war another chance' agenda - or homewardat Australian politics, where our newly promoted (from back bench to Parl.Sec.) Malcolm Turnbull, Republic advocate and merchant banker with questionableloyalty ties to lead player Macquarie Bank, is being groomed forpriministership - I see a scenario that suggests more of the ethically bankruptagenda within agenda. Business Life is the current top Game -any other Game, includingthat of politics, education or religion, is a hobby, merely. And is that wrong or right, ethically? And anyway, whocares? And is such a question really relevant? It is much like bemoaning thefact that many young children in Western Countries today will never see theocean , or tomorrow, may never see tropical plants or experience the dailyconsistent company of a parent, or even, given sufficient tomorrows, touch atree or clearly see a blue sky. We may bemoan this loss but it is questionablewhether these children of tomorrow will join in with our lamentation - afterall how can one grieve for what one has never known? And as always in Life, avacuum can never exist. The tree, the blue sky, the daily parent presence, these all will be replaced by other objects, with which that future child willinevitably bond.
In fact, human bonding is the only survival mechanismperhaps, we can still count on in the future. The question is not, will westill bond in 2050 - the question is, with what? And as always, then, we areleft with that ultimate discussion topic - Is Ethics an Absolute? which bringsus, as always, back to one of 2 issues - God and/or Survival of the fittest.
