Will Ethics still be relevant in 2030. And if not, does it matter?
Ethics and Standards – these are qualities that today the concerned
older generation, seek but increasingly infrequently, can find. Have then these
been stolen from us, just ‘gone into the good night’ or has either God or
Darwin made them redundant?
And what does it all mean? And does it really matter?
When most spiritual leaders/glass-full optimists, cynics or
pragmatists, insist that Mankind's evolution, in terms of success, should be
interpreted either in terms of a spiral, a circle or a horizontal trajectory, I
feel strongly that in fact, its course might be more accurately and currently visualised,
for purposes of interpretation, as sliding into a parallel universe.
Some of us increasingly bemoan the fact that many young
children in the World today, will never grow up to see a clear blue sky, feel
the crystal clean ocean/river waters or hear birdsong. Some probably will never
know the love/company of a parent or know what it is to have a home. They might
never experience ‘romantic’ love, let alone have any idea what Ethics is all
about. And these losses we see as results either of social under-privilege or
ignorant free choice, depending on whether we are thinking of industrial
pollution or our own teenagers.
Where in the world, we mutter to ourselves, is Humanity
going? What is happening?. Well, I let
me offer you my Theory – a hypothetical born of a concerned madness.

What is Ethics?
For the YM definition of Ethics please see our top Menu ‘About Us’ page. Ethics is a subject whose texture, form and substance, qua an absolute definition, as yet remain largely hidden among the many irrelevances of our everyday activities.
Its loom is one at which we sit, first as children, then later as adults, perhaps parents, weaving with fragile thread composed simultaneously of Faith, Instinct and Experience a finished cloth, that is ever altered, seams taken in and let out, hems lowered/raised - in the never-ending quest to cover the always nebulous, ever-changing figure it seeks to clothe ………..(cont.)
How does Ethics relate to parenting?
Is parenting, for the average parent, the result of rational choice? Parenting is necessarily an expression of a parent’s feelings, which in turn are the result of his/her own childhood ‘parented’ conditioning experiences. Add to this the increasing tendency of current parenting to be influenced by the opinions of ....... (cont.)
